Herbal therapy is the use of plants for both preventing and healing both chronic and acute health issues. Herbal therapy is also supportive with general wellness goals. Taking herbs as medicine dates as far back as 60,000 years ago. In order to provide herbal therapy, skilled herbalists follow an assessment and formulating system that seeks to support individuals based on what they are experiencing, or symptoms. A good herbalist follows an assessment system, such as Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic, Traditional Western System, or a combination. A great herbalist follows an assessment system and incorporates the energetics of the plant (cooling, calming passionflower) to those of a current imbalance (anxiety, insomnia) with those of the person or constitution (someone who runs hot, is sensitive to their environment).

I am trained in and utilize components of traditional herbalism of Europe, Western herbalism, Ayurveda, and Chinese Medicine then combines her larger wellness plans with modern holistic healing tools and techniques. Combining techniques is advantageous as the approaches combine synergistically to best accomplish my goal of using plants for healing.

What is herbal therapy used for?

Human evolution was dependent on plants. If plants didn’t exist, neither would humans. Therefore, humans evolved with the ability to use plant medicine. Utilizing plants as medicine brings us back to our roots, our true selves, and (when used properly) doesn’t come with any side-effects.

Herbal therapy is utilized with both acute and chronic conditions, everyday goals, and transformational shifts. Acute is the term used for conditions with a rapid onset and a short duration. Things like getting a cold or breaking a bone from an accident is considered an acute condition. Chronic conditions usually have a slow onset, and could last months or years and aren’t considered as severe, yet still need tending to and care. Chronic conditions can look like chronic back pain or cardiovascular disease.

Everyday health goals that herbal therapy can support include improving sleep, boosting nutrients, enhancing our immune system, elevating mood, calming our GI system, enhancing our cognition, and more. Herbs are also majorly supportive in supporting our minds and bodies with other physical and emotional issues such as stress with having a busy schedule, processing grief, transitioning, self-love work, chronic fatigue, pain, anxiety, etc.

Are herbs safe to take?

Herbs are safe when taken in recommended dosages for the appropriate indications.
